Norman P. Friend
Norman is the founder and President of Franchise 101 Inc. and is widely recognized as an expert in expansion strategies, franchise development and franchisee recruitment with almost 40 years’ experience in all aspects of franchising. He was recognized by Global Franchise Magazine as the go-to-expert for Canadian franchising.
He is a ‘Fellow’ of the International Trade Council and was appointed to the Business Council for Emerging Markets.
Norman has negotiated the sale of over 250 businesses including unit franchises, sub-franchises, and international master licenses and the sale of two Canadian franchise networks.
Norman is one of the few people in Canada that is recognized by the Courts as an ‘Expert Franchise Witness’.
Norman built the initial platform for several franchisors including Nurse Next Door, Basha Donair & Shawarma, Cap-it Light Truck Centres, Paw Street Market, Life Maid Easy, TapSnap and Velofix, and has represented and/or consulted with numerous franchisors including Family Pizza, and School is Easy Tutoring.
Norman was hired as the franchise consultant responsible for franchise development and franchise recruitment by several franchise companies that have been featured on the CBC TV show ‘Dragon’s Den’.
He is the author of the two best-selling franchise books -The Complete Canadian Franchise Guide (hard cover), and So You Want to Buy a Franchise and Be Your Own Boss – The Ultimate Guide to Buying a Business or Franchise in Canada. All three books were published by McGraw-Hill/Ryerson.
He wrote the original text for the Canadian Franchise Association’s publication Investigate Before you Invest and is a contributor to Global Franchise Magazine.
He has presented numerous seminars and keynote talks to business organizations, universities, colleges, professional associations, and financial institutions throughout North America, including the U.S. Department of Trade and Commerce.
